Command Line Arguments

These arguments are useful for simplifying or automating the launch of a game client or modpacks. They can also be used to create a portable client.

Backward Compatibility

The names of the command line parameters are constant and will not change throughout the development cycle of the launcher, so using the arguments listed below prevents the necessary settings from being reset

Prebootstrap arguments

Deprecated!

Prebootstrap is considered deprecated. This paragraph is provided for historical purposes.
If for some reason you are still using prebootstrap - please upgrade to up-to-date portable client.

The prebootstrap arguments can be passed directly when running from the command line, in shortcut properties, or written to the tl.pbargs file. The file with arguments must be located in the same folder as the prebootstrap executable.

ArgumentDescription
--debugEnable debug mode (to find out the stage causing the error)
--skipUpdateSkip prebootstrap update
--bootstrap <path>Path to launcher bootstrap.jar file
--jreDir <path>JRE storage path
--jre <value>JRE name to use for launching the bootstrap (allowed values: win64, win86, win64_jre8u45, win86_jre8u45)
--skipBootstrapUpdateSkip bootstrap.jar update and ingegrity checks

Bootstrap arguments

Bootstrap prepares the environment for the launcher, essentially being a launcher for the launcher. Its arguments file can be used to set the basic settings of the launcher. This is the main jar file of the launcher used to start it.

Arguments for Bootstrap can be passed either through the tl.args file or through tl.bootargs. In the first case they are passed as application arguments, in the second case they are passed as Java arguments

Application arguments (tl.args)Java arguments (tl.bootargs)Description
